A Sweet Almond Cappuccino Recipe For The Nostalgic
Ever since I was a boy I’ve had a bit of a sweet tooth. I considered myself lucky to be a part of Italian family, where dessert came with the same abundance as pasta. To my delight, my nonna seemed to have all the skills of the best bakers in town, and was happy to put her talent to use.
As I cultivated my love for Italian desserts over time I realized the most vital ingredient in everything from cake to biscotti: Almond. It is a quintessential flavour in so many Italian desserts, and it’s no surprise to that it pairs beautifully with a well-made coffee.
For me, having a cappuccino with an almond biscotti is a religious experience. Espresso with a touch of amaretto is equally gratifying (not to mention it goes down smooth).
The flavours of coffee and almond are a match made in heaven. Today I want to craft a beverage that embodies the delicious nature of these two ingredients with a Sweet Almond Cappuccino!
What you'll need:
- Da Vinci Gourmet Almond Syrup
- Pacific Foods Barista Series Almond Milk
- Espresso
- Chocolate powder
Pacific Foods Barista Series milk alternatives are my favourite non-dairy substitutes to use for steaming milk. They offer a wide variety of plant-based beverages that are specifically designed to be used with coffee. For this recipe we are using almond milk, but you can easily swap it out for soy, oat, or skim milk. Not to mention nothing steams like the genuine article.
1) Extract 30 mL of espresso into 5 mL of almond syrup. This allows the syrup to melt into the coffee.
2) Next, steam your almond milk. Try to get a nice frothy layer at the top.
3) Combine your almond flavoured espresso with your airy milk and top with a generous amount of chocolate powder.
Buon Appetito!
